Julija Valdmanis is a Latvian Canadian artist, currently residing in Bowmanville, Ontario with her family. She grew up being surrounded by art and music. While she works full-time as a nurse, painting allows her to fully explore and express her artistic side, release stress, and consider the juxtaposition of lightness and darkness of life. Her work was recently published on www.latvis.ca as part of a group show.
Oftentimes utilizing mixed media, my pieces are deeply layered, energetic, and colourful. The layers allow the viewer to become fully immersed and lost in the paintings, eliciting emotion such as nostalgia, hope, or gratitude. My paintings often play with the juxtaposition of darkness and light, and stillness and movement.
